Human Resources Manager
Under the direction of the Agency Leadership Team and Chief Executive Officer, the Human Resources (HR) Manager will oversee the general area of human resources, and be personally responsible for employee development, discipline, and training. The HR Manager is expected to provide guidance to agency supervisors and staff on issues and concerns related to human resources management and be responsible for the oversight of personnel management within the agency. She/he is expected to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving and to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the agency’s mission, goals, and programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR desired.
  • Minimum three years of experience in human resources management preferred. Experience in a public or private non-profit agency; human or social services business sectors preferred.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must have working knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching and be prepared to present and implement its principles as they relate to employment within the agency.
  • Must have knowledge of basic principles, procedures, and best practices of human resources administration including knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Must have knowledge of payroll and personnel record keeping principles and practices.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with job applicants, colleagues, the Archdiocese, and with other community personnel.
  • Must demonstrate self-confidence, initiative, flexibility, good supervisory skills, and a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Must possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient with or have the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and manage stressful situations. Must possess strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights as needed.
  • Must be able to relate to a varied ethnic employee and client population.
  • Must be proficient in PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, or related software.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and personal transportation.

Catholic Charities of Louisville is the social-service arm of the Archdiocese of Louisville. We provide help and create hope for the poor and vulnerable through a wide range of programs, assisting clients of all races, backgrounds and beliefs. Our service area includes 24 counties throughout Central Kentucky.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Human Resources functions of the agency; ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to employment and employee relations.
  • Review personnel policies and procedures for completeness, accuracy, and compliance; make recommendations regarding personnel policies to the Leadership Team.
  • Act as the point of contact for Archdiocesan personnel staff to ensure adherence to Archdiocesan policies, respond to Archdiocesan requests, and seek guidance as needed.
  • Recognize and be responsive to the needs of management, staff, Board of Directors, and the Archdiocese of Louisville.
  • Supervise Human Resources Assistant in all tasks assigned. This includes payroll, benefits, recruitment, onboarding, offboarding and file maintenance.
  • In conjunction with the Archdiocese, administer the employee benefits program including enrollments, addressing employee concerns, reporting, FMLA and leaves of absence.
  • Support the Leadership Team, Program Directors, and Managers in managing staff, including advising on development and discipline plans. Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex, and confidential personnel issues and employee situations.
  • In conjunction with the Leadership Team and Program Directors, develop and execute strategic plans for agency staffing needs and recruitment, evaluation, compensation, and staff development.
  • Develop and modify job descriptions in collaboration with the management staff and as needed; assess and maintain the appropriate grades of new and existing positions.
  • Communicate with management staff to identify training needs and proactively identify topics to be addressed or areas in need of additional instruction; source or develop training opportunities as identified.
  • Gather feedback from employees regarding effectiveness of development plans, training, and other staff improvement activities for effectiveness.
  • Support the Payroll department to help ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Serve as the Leadership Team liaison and advisor for the agency’s Staff Care and Culture Team (SCCT).
  • Manage the agency employee safety program including incident and workers’ compensation reporting and OSHA requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
