Description

Are you ready for a change or looking to progress your career? The Cathedral School is seeking a talented and experienced Human Resources Manager for a permanent full-time position working 46 weeks per year. This generalist HR position is responsible for managing the school’s HR functions and contributing to the school through the provision of professional advice to the school’s Executive team and staff in accordance with legislative requirements and industry best practice. The successful applicant will be working in a vibrant department with a great team of professionals.
The Cathedral School of St Anne & St James located in Mundingburra is Townsville’s only Independent Anglican School for boys and girls from Early Childhood to Year 12 and boarding students from Year 7 to 12. The school is set amongst a lagoon and lush tropical rain trees creating a wonderful canvas to inspire learning and creativity. At Cathedral we ‘educate for life-long success’.

The position will be responsible for:

  • Managing the end-to-end recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing and onboarding of new hires.
  • Developing and implementing HR policies, procedures and initiatives to support the school’s growth and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and enterprise agreements.
  • Overseeing employee relations, including performance management, conflict resolution and disciplinary matters.
  • Providing assistance and support to payroll section of the Finance team.
  • Providing strategic HR advice to the school’s Executive team.
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Maintaining staff training requirements.

The successful will be required to meet the following Essential Criteria and actively work towards obtaining the desired Competencies, Knowledge & Skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Diploma level qualification in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations or a related discipline. A degree level qualification is favoured.
  • Valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card).

COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a HR role within a large organisation.
  • Experience in working with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • A high level of administrative, technical and professional expertise, including the ability to lead, consult, delegate, analyse, plan and communicate to diverse stakeholders.
  • A well-developed knowledge of and experience in the application of contemporary HR procedures and practices.
  • The ability to interpret, understand and apply Awards, Industrial Agreements, Enterprise bargaining agreements and contract law to HR/Payroll.
  • Understanding of payroll legislation and processes.
  • Knowledge of job evaluation, classification and review processes.
  • Excellent computer skills including experience within an office environment working with computers using Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills to develop relationships with school staff and stakeholders to deal with a variety of issues including conflict resolution and issues of a sensitive nature.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills to ensure clear and concise information is presented to school management and staff.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own work activities and schedules to meet established deadlines and achieve high quality work outcomes.
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Customer service focus and recognition that people are our most important assets.
  • Ability to foster innovation and to implement modern management techniques.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in contributing to a small team, including the capacity to review and improve workplace practices.

    All staff at Cathedral are expected to support the philosophies of the school and must either hold or be able to obtain a Blue Card and/or be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.
