At LA SPCA, this role involves public health and public safety law enforcement (local and state laws pertaining to animals). In addition, you would be responsible for promoting and supporting the LA SPCA's programs and services. Success Criteria & Essential Functions: Adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions and remain calm in high-stress situations Demonstrate Strong verbal and written communication skills Take initiative when responding to animal-related calls and ensure that one’s work is complete and accurate Respond to situations involving animals in crisis due to human abuse and neglect or disaster. Navigate variety of public responses and inquiries while ensuring safety of all parties. Produce significant output through efficient planning Coordinate activities with other LA/SPCA staff and volunteers on a regular basis Represent LA/SPCA at meetings, conferences, through courtroom testimony and interaction with the public. Requirements Education and/or Experience: Associates Degree preferred; High School diploma or G.E.D required At least 2 years’ work experience involving care of animals and dealing with the public; or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge: General understanding of companion and large animal husbandry, animal handling and animal welfare principles General understanding of animal infectious disease control and prevention Proficiency in computer skills Working Conditions: Works in areas with high noise levels Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches Works outdoors in extreme weather conditions Additional Information: Must have a valid State of Louisiana driver's license Must be 25+ years old with a clean driving record Must be able to pass a criminal background check and substance screening Expected to work extended hours, weekends/holidays, and maintain a 24 hr. on-call status as needed Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach; perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing, bending and stooping Should not be allergic to animals or nut products; must be able to work around all animals, including wildlife Must be able to work with industrial strength cleaners and disinfectants Benefits include but not limited to: Health Insurance, Life Insurance, 401K match PTO and paid holidays Qualification and assistance for Public Service Loan Forgiveness Pay Range: $20.00hr - $23.25hr based on experience and professional certifications.
