About the Role
We are hiring a Controls Development Engineer / Specialist to help continue to build our high performing operations and join us in our mission to create healthy spaces for people to live, work and play in a sustainable way. The successful candidate will be responsible for HVAC controls development, component testing, integration, and related technical support of ERVs (Enthalpy Recovery Ventilator) and DOAS units (Dedicated Outdoor Air System) in North America. This position works closely with both production and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop PLC/DDC software for ERV and DOAS systems.
- Make necessary modifications to our controls as needed to support end users.
- Troubleshoot and eliminate control system issues.
- Develop training material for startup and commissioning of Oxygen8’s equipment.
- Provide training to representatives and technicians.
- Develop and test control algorithms at the Toronto laboratory for use in the Oxygen8 DDC controller.
- Assist in the development of HMI code and testing.
- Maintain an understanding of Building Automation Systems and Intelligent Operation of HVAC (Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning) Equipment.
- Liaise between customers and sales, production and applications teams.
- Create and document standard operating procedures, keeping them accurate and up to date.
- Participate in new product introductions to sales teams and customers.
- Travel on-site within Canada and the U.S.
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor or Diploma in Electrical/Computer Engineering/HVAC Technology.
- Must have experience in the HVAC industry.
- 3-5+ years’ experience working with control systems.
- Experience with PLC and HMI operation and programming, testing and building automation, with exposure to Python, C++, or Java.
- Strong understanding of electrical circuits and components.
- Able to read electrical diagrams and to troubleshoot control panels.
- Knowledge of ECM motors, sensors, and communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
