What You’ll Do: As an HVAC Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll dive deep into Air Wise’s policies and procedures, leveraging your knowledge to support the sales team and expand our market presence. Responsibilities and Duties include:

  • Analyze project requirements for custom HVAC equipment
  • Create CAD electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts to allow the equipment to operate as required
  • Select and size components such as motors, drives, transformers, fuses, overloads, contactors, relays, disconnects, and sensors based on application and load calculations
  • Create a control sequence and program to achieve necessary performance
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards, including CEC, UL 1995, and CSA where applicable.
  • Prepare shop drawing packages for customer approval
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), equipment lists, load calculations, and installation manuals
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, project managers, and controls specialists to ensure electrical designs integrate seamlessly with mechanical and control systems
  • Coordinate and execute requested changes to the design as required
  • Support internal teams (production, quality assurance, purchasing) with technical documentation and clarification.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and ensure designs meet UL, CSA, CEC, and manufacturer-specific requirements
  • Support efforts in obtaining product certifications and maintaining documentation for electrical inspections or audits
  • Promote teamwork and good company morale; mentor and knowledge share with teammates
  • Conduct yourself with the highest ethical standards

Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical
  • 1-5 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in HVAC/air handling units
  • Ability to produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and installation instructions
  • Experience with custom-built systems is strong plus
  • Strong knowledge of control panel design, motor control circuits, and power distribution
  • Familiarity with 3-phase power systems, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and starters
  • Familiarity with PLC systems, BAS/BMS interfaces, and electrical schematics
  • Knowledge of UL 1995 / CSA C22.2 No. 236
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects at a time
  • Ability to read and understand engineering blueprints and specifications
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • Attention to detail
