It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Salary Range: $37,782 - $66,120 Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Hot Water Supply, Plumbing, and Food Service Equipment. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Performing special repairs and assignments that are received by work orders from authorized personnel. - Identifying the cause of a problem; determining materials and tools needed and method of repair; and carrying out repair procedures independently on most jobs. - Performing scheduled maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans. - Training and/or supervising the work of offender helpers. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and/or equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Necessary Special Qualifications: Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC08. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
