JOB DESCRIPTION: HVAC MECHANICAL ESTIMATOR

Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Salford, Manchester (with travel to UK sites as required)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm (40-hour week)

J Squared is recruiting on behalf of one of our large commercial clients on the Projects Division which specialises in delivering high-quality design and build services for mechanical installations across the UK.
The HVAC Mechanical Estimator will play a key role in supporting the delivery of accurate, competitive, and commercially viable quotations for HVAC installation projects.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

As an HVAC Mechanical Estimator, you will play a critical part in preparing tenders, quotations, and cost plans for HVAC projects of varying scale and complexity. You will liaise with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure all estimates are technically sound, cost-effective, and aligned with project specifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare accurate mechanical estimates for HVAC projects from initial enquiry through to submission.
  • Carry out detailed material take-offs and create schedules of equipment, plant, and labour.
  • Work closely with the design and project management teams to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
  • Provide value engineering advice and identify opportunities for cost-saving solutions.
  • Prepare Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) relating to estimating activities.
  • Support project handover to delivery teams, ensuring estimates are clearly communicated.
  • Attend client and stakeholder meetings where necessary to discuss technical and commercial aspects of tenders.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, labour rates, and material costs.
  • Support the Projects Division with technical expertise and contribute to business development opportunities.
