Description Job Summary: We are seeking a dependable and experienced HVAC/R Technician to support the maintenance and operational needs of our school facilities. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in HVAC and refrigeration systems, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and minimal disruption to the learning environment. This role ensures that all climate control systems in classrooms, administrative buildings, cafeterias, and gymnasiums are operating efficiently and safely to support the well-being of students and staff. Key Responsibilities: Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems in school facilities. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize system downtime and avoid disruptions during school hours. Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using technical manuals and schematics. Replace or repair worn or damaged parts, including compressors, motors, thermostats, and wiring. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to schedule maintenance work around instructional activities and school events. Work with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or installations as needed. Maintain compliance with safety codes, environmental regulations, and policies. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory. Support other school maintenance needs such as event setup, snow removal, or emergency repairs as directed by the Facilities Director. Collaborate with other tradespeople and custodial staff on cross-functional projects. Operate and maintain the Building Automation System (BMS). Conduct rotational on-call services. Requirements Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and climb ladders without restriction. Work may be performed in both indoor and outdoor school environments, sometimes in inclement weather. Minimum Qualifications: Proven experience as an HVAC/R Technician, preferably in a school or institutional setting. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration units, and electrical components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must possess basic hand tools for trade-related tasks. Strong commitment to student and staff safety and comfort. Oil burner license. Preferred Qualifications: EPA Certification (Universal or Type II). Experience in a K-12 or higher education environment. Familiarity with school district facilities management systems. Work Schedule: Full-time, year-round position with occasional evening or weekend work for school events or emergencies.
