Position Overview: Asheville Humane Society is expanding our high-volume, high-quality (HVHQ) spay/neuter program to six days per week and is seeking an experienced Contract Spay/Neuter Surgeon to join our established surgical team. We are specifically seeking a veterinarian available to work Saturdays. This role is entirely focused on efficient, safe, high-quality surgical care for shelter pets, public pets, and community cats. You will join a collaborative surgical team that includes an experienced HVHQ S/N surgeon and our Medical Director, ensuring shared support, consistent protocols, and a positive, team-centered workflow. Key Responsibilities: Perform up to 25 spay/neuter surgeries on cats and dogs (public and shelter) in a fast-paced mobile medical unit environment. Embrace safe and efficient anesthetic and surgical techniques aligned with best-practice HVHQ standards. Provide compassionate pre- and post-operative care, monitoring patients closely to ensure comfort and safety. Collaborate with a skilled, organized, and caring surgical team. Maintain accurate surgical and medical records. Engage with clients, fostering trust and positive experiences. Partner with the Medical Director to strengthen protocols and ensure continuous program improvement. Opportunity to add soft tissue surgeries for shelter pets if desired. Requirements DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary school. Active North Carolina veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain one). Professional Liability Insurance Demonstrated proficiency and efficiency in HVHQ spay/neuter surgery. Strong communication skills and the ability to support a positive team culture. Passion for animal welfare and the mission of accessible, high-quality care. Willingness to provide guidance and support to veterinary assistants/technicians as needed.
