TITLE: HVN – Assistant Terminal Operations Manager
REPORTS TO: Terminal Operations Manager
LOCATION: New Haven, Connecticut
AIRPORT: Tweed - New Haven Airport (HVN)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Terminal Operations Manager supports the Terminal Operations Manager in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the airport terminal and landside facilities. The ideal candidate has extensive air carrier operations experience, strong leadership, customer service excellence, and confident decision-making in a fast-paced environment. This role requires a high-energy, collaborative approach to problem-solving and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for irregular operations, including occasional evening and weekend shifts.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation, Transportation, Security, or other related degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to interface effectively with airport stakeholders and public in a professional manner.
  • Previous experience in terminal or airline management, with customer service functions highly preferred.
  • Previous experience and/or capability of becoming fully qualified to perform job functions associated with TSR 1542 regulatory compliance.
  • Must be able to pass security clearance requirements and required drug testing.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and sustain a valid driver’s license in the person’s state of residence and maintain a driving record compatible with the Company’s insurance company’s criteria.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily terminal operations, ensuring efficient and safe facility management.
  • Support the Terminal Operations Manager in training, scheduling, and assigning work to the terminal operations staff.
  • Develop and update terminal operating policies and procedures as needed.
  • Inspect terminal facilities to identify and address operational, safety, and security concerns in coordination with landside staff.
  • Manage usage of common-use terminal facilities, including air carrier ramps, baggage claim, and deicing pad/collection system.
  • Distribute and adjust gate and aircraft parking/RON assignments in real-time based on scheduling, flight loads, passenger flows, and irregular operations.
  • Ensure accuracy of flight information displays (FIDS) and coordinate updates with internal departments.
  • Identify and implement best practices for gate scheduling processes.
  • Document air carrier and tenant non-compliance with airport rules and agreements.
  • Monitor terminal occupancy to maintain compliance with fire codes and public safety regulations.
  • Ensure terminal cleanliness and coordinate with custodial services for timely issue resolution.
  • Communicate operational contingency needs based on flight schedules and terminal occupancy.
  • Promote exceptional customer service to enhance passenger and visitor experience.
  • Serve as an airport liaison for operational matters with tenants, service providers, TSA, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Lead customer service efforts, including lost and found and the Sunflower Hidden Disabilities Program/HVN Cares Program.
  • Manage restocking and inventory of airport vending merchandise.
  • Support the Airport Security Coordinator in ensuring compliance with 49 CFR 1542.
  • Attend weekly airport management meetings and provide routine reports on terminal operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
