Job Description

We’re seeking a skilled Hydraulic Engineer / Workshop Machinist to join our high-performing team, delivering critical repairs and refurbishments that keep industry moving. You’ll use your machining and hydraulic expertise across varied, hands-on tasks – from precision machining to complex repairs – ensuring equipment runs at its best. You’ll also help maintain a safe, high-quality workshop and support our 24/7 breakdown service as part of a shared on-call roster. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Operating manual lathes and workshop machinery to fabricate and rework hydraulic parts
  • Disassembling, rebuilding and repairing valves, pumps, motors and cylinders
  • Performing cylinder repairs such as re-tubing, re-shafting and re-sealing
  • Liaising with customers to provide updates, explain repairs and build strong relationships

Qualifications

You’re a skilled and motivated tradesperson who’s confident working with hydraulics, machining, and precision tooling. You’ll bring strong problem-solving ability, great communication skills, and the flexibility to handle both planned work and urgent breakdowns. What you’ll need:

  • Trade qualification or proven experience in machining, fitting & turning, or hydraulic repair
  • Confidence with manual lathes, precision tooling, and mechanical fault-finding
  • A full, clean NZ driver’s licence and the fitness for hands-on workshop duties
  • The ability to work independently or in a team, with flexibility for overtime and on-call support
