Mack Construction Services Ltd. is a leader in telecommunications infrastructure, fiber optic network deployments, and civil construction. We are a turnkey utility construction company, specializing in horizontal directional drilling (HDD), hydrovac, excavating, trenching, fiber splicing and underground utility construction in the telecom, utility, and pipeline industry. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced hydrovac operator to perform safe and efficient excavation on various utility and construction projects

JOB SUMMARY:

The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for operating hydrovac trucks to safely excavate around utilities, pipelines, and sensitive underground infrastructure. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and efficient excavation techniques while working in various environments, including construction sites, urban areas, and remote locations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of experience operating hydrovac trucks in civil construction, telecommunications, or utility excavation.
  • Valid Class 3 or Class 1 driver’s license with a clean abstract,
  • Knowledge of hydrovac excavation techniques, safety procedures, and underground utility regulations.
  • Experience working in urban and rural excavation sites.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility locates, blueprints, and construction drawings an asset.
  • Strong understanding of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with industry standards.
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid First Aid, Fall Protection, CSTS, WHMIS, and Ground Disturbance certifications. Additional certifications are considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Operate hydrovac trucks to excavate around underground utilities safely.
  • Perform daylighting, trenching, slot trenching, and utility exposure as required.
  • Read and interpret utility locates, construction drawings, and work plans.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed, including the proper use of PPE and adherence to company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of hydrovac trucks, ensuring proper maintenance and reporting any issues.
  • Assist in job site setup and traffic control as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and equipment after each job.
  • Work closely with supervisors, project managers, and field crews to ensure efficient excavation operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including work tickets, safety reports, and equipment usage records.
  • Ensure environmental protection by minimizing soil disturbance and managing debris disposal properly.
