SUMMARY

St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is Western Canada’s only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12). St. Margaret’s School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Programme, and we are a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
St. Margaret’s School is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, and team-oriented teacher to join our small and vibrant school community. As an inspiring educator, this teacher will have a passion for the Middle Years (6-8), experience in teaching Math/Science in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), strong instructional skills, and a commitment to improving the school through designing and implementing interdisciplinary projects that connect teaching and learning to the overall mission and vision of the school. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Current and Valid teacher certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
  • Bachelor of Education degree with a focus on/experience in teaching Math and Science at the Middle Years level.
  • Certification and experience to teach in an IB Middle Years Programme setting, with a strong understanding of the MYP curriculum design and assessment strategies in Math and Science.
  • Minimum three years experience working in an inquiry-based Math and Science setting, incorporating 21st-century teaching strategies, including the integration of technology, data analysis, and experimental design.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with a variety of instructional approaches to meet the individual needs of girls in Math and Science learning environments.
  • Superior communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, especially within interdisciplinary planning teams and curriculum development initiatives.
  • Willingness to engage in school-wide professional development opportunities, particularly in STEM pedagogy, assessment, and IB practices.
  • Embodies a growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement in Math and Science education.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning in Math, Science, or IB education (e.g., workshops, certifications, or academic study).

Responsibilities
  • Create, implement, and deliver a motivating and engaging Math and Science course curriculum that aligns with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework.
  • Create, implement, and deliver a motivating and engaging Digital Literacy course curriculum that aligns with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework.
  • Design and deliver creative and varied inquiry-based Math and Science experiences that are developmentally responsive to a girl-centered learning environment.
  • Foster an inclusive Math and Science classroom by emphasizing belonging and providing supportive, flexible routines and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of the Math/Science continuum.
  • Prioritize differentiation and adaptation strategies in Math and Science instruction in support of a diverse range of learning styles and needs.
  • Provide homeroom support by developing and leading a program that fosters a strong sense of community, belonging, and student agency, while addressing the social and emotional needs of students through intentional routines, relationship-building, and responsive, age-appropriate guidance.
  • Foster the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of the students.
  • Collaborate regularly with colleagues to share ideas and plan interdisciplinary units that integrate Math and Science with other MYP subject areas and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
  • Attend regular meetings and school-required events as part of the school community.
  • Monitor student learning and progress through ongoing formative and summative assessments in Math and Science, providing timely, constructive feedback and fostering student reflection and goal-setting.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings with parents and colleagues to support the holistic development of students, especially in Math and Science achievement and well-being.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, including weekly newsletter and use of digital portfolios that showcase student Math and Science Learning progress.
