Description Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pediatrics and the IBCLC Manager, the IBCLC in its duties as IBCLC counsels prenatal patients and postpartum patients to support breastfeeding and newborn care. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct lactation consultation to prenatal and postpartum patients as well as mothers of infants who are patients of SPLG. Provides education and support to health educators at SPLG in the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program who provide lactation education to our patients and other providers in the clinic Participates in group education classes that incorporate lactation consultation. In coordination with clinic operations managers, Chief Medical Officer and other staff, assists with implementing the centering pregnancy program and 9 Steps to a Breastfeeding Friendly Clinic. Assists with developing and implementing other programs to support prenatal education and lactation in the clinic. Provide clinical hours to CLCs on the IBCLC Pathway. Supports the accomplishment of the organization strategic plan to achieve high impact and significant improvements in organizational performance. Responds to co-worker and patient needs in ways that are helpful and beyond expectation. Refers patients to appropriate community health care services. Participates in staff meetings, such as Quality Improvement Committee, Lactation Team Meetings, IBCLC Clinical Skills, and Breastfeeding Champions. Ensures a productive work environment and achievement of goals through strategies and practices in line with the CARE fundamentals of communication. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Certification as International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Three years of experience in similar work Current CPR certification Experience with EHR Possession of a valid CA Driver’s license and proof of insurance required Knowledge of: Knowledge of community health services and facilities and public health issues Knowledge of the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) and centering pregnancy model Ability to: Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrate strong ethical standards. Communicates effectively by using welcoming words, proper tone of voice, appropriate body language, eye contact and smiling in all interactions. Listen skillfully and display a willingness and ability to acknowledge patient and co-workers’ needs, expectations and values through the use of reflective listening and empathy conveyance. Communicates effectively and respectfully with people, including patients and staff, from different racial, ethnic and cultural groups and from different backgrounds and lifestyles; demonstrates a knowledge and sensitivity to their needs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bilingual, English/Spanish PHYSICAL DEMANDS Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching, bending, moving and/or lifting up to 50 pounds. SALARY & BENEFITS Salary: $91,248.47 - $111,469.74 Employment Type: On-Call Additional Information: Employees on temporary assignments are eligible for holiday pay and California sick pay, both pro-rated based on hours worked. On-call employees are eligible for California sick pay, pro-rated based on hours worked.
