SUMMARY

As a Ice Control Truck Operator on the Winter Maintenance Team, you will be essential in ensuring safe and efficient ice control and winter maintenance operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will utilize a truck-mounted Salter Unit to perform ice control tasks on various commercial properties in and around the Orillia area. Your premium skills in mechanical knowledge and commercial driving will enhance your performance, while relevant skills in previous similar operations will contribute to the team’s overall success. There will be an opportunity for successful incumbent(s) to transition to our Paving/Pavement Maintenance Crew in the Spring, for a year-round Employment opportunity.
Seeking experienced, mature, reliable, & detail-oriented individuals to join our Winter Maintenance Team. This position will require the use of SINGLE-AXLE DUMP TRUCK WITH ATTACHED ICE CONTROL PRODUCT SPREADER to assist with the treatment of Ice by spreading Ice Control Product at properties in Orillia & surrounding areas. Shifts are primarily EARLY MORNING START TIMES. YOU MUST ANSWER THE PRE-SCREENING QUESTIONS IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Perform routine Circle Checks and top up Fluids and/or Fuel as necessary;
  • Follow a pre-determined Route and treat Commercial Properties with Ice Control Products;
  • Hand Treat Sidewalks/Walkways by manually-spreading Ice Melt Product as required;
  • Accurately complete Route Log Sheets/Electronic Logs;
  • Communicate with fellow Crew Members and Office Dispatch via Two-Way Radio’s to ensure expedient and efficient Service to all properties;
  • Ability to commit to working the duration of the Winter Maintenance Season as required, (up to and including April 30, 2025);
  • Physically-fit and capable of working outdoors in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time (although Trucks are Climate-Controlled);
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while operating equipment;
  • Ability to work a variety of Shifts including days, evening, overnight, weekends, & holidays, including extended hours;
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence;
  • Conviction-Free Driver’s Abstract (no major fines and/or convictions within the last (3) years);
  • 2 Pieces of Valid, Government-issued Photo Identification, in additional to a Valid Ontario Social Insurance Number;
  • Legally-entitled to work for payment in the Province of Ontario;
  • Other duties as assigned by Management
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can provide demonstrable ability in being able to operate two or more pieces of equipment (ie. Plow Trucks, Front-End Loaders, Skid Steers, Farm Tractors, etc…).
  • Pay Rate will be negotiated based on relevant experience, skill set, and candidates availability.
  • We offer a competitive Wage, Vacation Time, Paid Statutory Holidays/Premium Pay, and Bonus opportunities.
