JOB SUMMARY

This posting may be used to fill more than one vacancy.
This position exists to assist in the administration of the statewide Department of Public Safety (DPS) Ignition Interlock Device Program (IIDP). The Ignition Interlock Specialist processes applications for enrollment into the ignition interlock program, monitors individuals who are enrolled in the program and processes the graduation of participants from the program. The incumbent acts as the representative of the program, working closely with and providing information in writing, over telephone or in person to participants, probation officers, interlock manufacturers, attorneys, and other county/court representatives, law enforcement personnel and other related DPS personnel.
Hybrid Eligible: Employees may telework up to 50% or more, depending on the position and the needs of the division. Employees who live 50 miles or more from their permanent work location and reside within the state or in a county bordering the state may be allowed to telework more than 50% with approval from the division director.
The Department of Public Safety is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the start of employment. DPS does not participate in E-Verify

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Data entry sufficient to read source documents and enter data in specific databases or tracking systems and maintain accurate records and reports
  • Typing/keyboarding sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy
  • Ability to present clear and concise explanations of governing rules and regulations in a manner that others understand the information they are being given
  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence
  • Skill in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software sufficient to utilize software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous driver and vehicle services experience, or other experience in a regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be well organized and to prioritize tasks
  • Comfort with public speaking and effective communication with audiences in group sessions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to follow up on activities with little supervision and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and small tools. May need to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while carrying out job duties.
