JOB SUMMARY The Imaging Services Fellowship Advanced Imaging role works under the direct supervision of a modality-registered technologist as directed by a physician to perform a mixture of diagnostic imaging exams for Imaging Services. The incoming candidate must have their current leader sponsor them for the fellowship. The fellowship role is for a certified and registered imaging professional seeking advanced training in another imaging modality. Enrollment in a didactic imaging specialty course within the first 7 days of hire is required. Additionally, clinical competencies consist of multiple anatomical areas and varied clinical competencies needed for advanced certification. Once all competencies are all completed, the candidate has 30 days to sit for the advanced certification/registry as applicable. If the fellow does not pass the post-primary advanced registry on the first attempt, one additional opportunity is permitted within 90-days of the date of initial failure. Should the second attempt result in a non-passing score, the fellow should apply for any open positions for their initial registry. Initial position and hours are not held. The program's requirements must be met within 12 to 14 months depending on the modality fellowship. The Imaging Services Fellowship Advanced Imaging position is a training practicum to expand the knowledge, skills, abilities, and clinical pathways to reduce the learning gap in obtaining an advanced secondary American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification (s): Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), and Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI). Additional secondary pathways include (s): American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS). The Imaging Services Fellowship Advanced Imaging professional performs patient examinations to gain experience, establishing a basis to guide best practices and provide safe, quality care with supervision and guidance from a certified and registered staff member. The Imaging Services Fellowship Advanced Imaging position incorporates theoretical knowledge into clinical situations and can acquire advanced diagnostic exams as guided by a certified and registered technologist. All practice is under the direct supervision of a certified and registered technologist, referencing UT Southwestern policies, procedures, and standards. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required Education Must be enrolled in a didactic specialty modality program within 30 days of selection. PATIENT CARE Verify physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and exam application. Interviews the patient (two patient identifiers), performs patient screening and obtains medical history pertinent to the clinical criteria of the ordered examination. Explains the method and advise the patient on the prerequisites for imaging studies. Assist the patient in dressing for the examination and care for the patient's physical well-being during transfer to and from the examination room and positioning for the examination. Briefs the patient and/or the patient's family (as appropriate) about the upcoming exam expectations. Assures the quality and safety of examinations by screening patients for medications or other queries. Assists the physician during procedures as needed. Ensures that images and electronic health records are accurately labeled and include pertinent data. The role requires a skilled communicator with exceptional people skills who will interact with healthcare professionals, doctors, administrators, and other stakeholders. Functions in the department as a member of an interdisciplinary team and collaborates in the care and service delivery process of patient care by communicating effectively with other service lines. Work with numerous certified and registered technologists to prioritize exams to create a smooth workflow, reduce wait times, and manage urgent requests. Maintains, cleans, and inventories exam rooms to keep work areas neat and orderly, including a monthly check for expired supplies. Adheres to hospital guidelines, regulatory compliance, new annual metrics, department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscal responsibility, which includes equipment, supplies, and overtime. Safeguards patient confidentiality and ensures the security of all systems and practices. An Imaging Services Fellowship Advanced Imaging employee is a committed member of the Imaging Services team and can include additional tasks, duties, and projects. Must be able to lift 40-50lbs. Research as applicable: Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; b) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
