Description Position Summary Ready to use your legal skills to make a meaningful impact? Join our team as a Staff Immigration Attorney in Stamford, where you’ll provide direct legal services to immigrants and their families navigating complex immigration systems. In this role, you will offer legal advice, counseling, and direct representation before agencies including USCIS, the U.S. Department of State, EOIR (Executive Office of Immigration Review), and Probate Court. You’ll support clients across a range of case types—from naturalization and family reunification to asylum and relief for survivors of serious crimes. This position is ideal for someone who is both detail-oriented and deeply committed to advancing access to justice for immigrant communities. Key Responsibilities Provide confidential legal consultations and conduct thorough intake and case assessments to determine eligibility for immigration benefits, including screenings for individuals in removal proceedings Counsel and represent clients in a wide range of immigration matters, including: Naturalization and citizenship Family-based petitions and reunification Adjustment of status and consular processing Asylum and humanitarian relief Relief for survivors of trafficking and other serious crimes (e.g., U visas, T visas) Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) Representation in removal proceedings Prepare and submit applications, petitions, and supporting documentation with accuracy and attention to detail Maintain organized and up-to-date electronic and paper case files in accordance with agency guidelines Collaborate with CIRI’s Pro Bono Network to refer clients and provide pro bono representation in qualifying cases Stay current on changes in immigration law and policy and participate in required trainings Qualifications & Experience Juris Doctor (JD) or LL.M from an accredited law school Active bar membership in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction; willingness to waive into Connecticut required At least 1 year of immigration legal experience preferred Experience working with low-income immigrant populations strongly preferred Experience supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other trauma is a plus Strong communication and public speaking skills Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and maintain strong attention to detail Demonstrated commitment to serving immigrant communities and advancing the organization’s mission Why Join Us At CIRI, our work is grounded in compassion, equity, and a deep respect for the communities we serve.
