Description
Description CIRI’s Afghan Legal Relief Project provides a unique and invaluable opportunity for a Staff Attorney to have a substantial impact on the lives of families and individuals, contribute to a national movement, and help shape immigration practices and policy in the U.S. Since September 2021, CIRI’s Refugee Services Program has resettled over 200 Afghans in Connecticut, providing financial maintenance and comprehensive case management, including employment, housing, education, health, and community navigation supports, with case management lasting up to five years. The next critical phase is assisting our new neighbors as they seek immigration relief through temporary or permanent status in the U.S. The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) is the largest non-profit provider of affordable and impactful immigration legal services in the state of Connecticut. CIRI is accredited by the Department of Justice to train and employ legal representatives, increasing access to justice and the availability of competent legal services to immigrants. Each year, CIRI’s Immigration Legal Services (ILS) Program assists 2,500–3,500 individuals with adjustment of status, family reunification, DACA renewals, citizenship applications, victim-based relief (T and U visas, VAWA), asylum applications, and temporary forms of relief. Afghan evacuees/parolees are eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), in addition to asylum and other relief based on individual circumstances.
