Contract: Permanent
Salary: £35,000 progressing to £38,000 following successful completion of the company probation period
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (office based) – Days
Role Overview:
We have a new and exciting opportunity, working within our modern and friendly office space in Ashby-de-la-Zouch for an Import and Export Controller.
As a key member of the operational logistics function, the Import Export Controller will drive continuous improvement within the logistics function. This role will be responsible for identifying and arranging the most efficient and cost-effective methods of transport to guarantee on-time delivery of goods both into and out of the business.
Extensive knowledge of current international customs clearance requirements will be required to guarantee smooth transfer of goods to their destination without delay.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years’ experience working within an Import Export role in a busy logistics environment.
  • Experience of managing temporary import / export of goods under ATA Carnet passport.
  • An excellent understanding of current import and export requirements, both EU and Worldwide transportation of goods.
  • Sound knowledge of the impact of Incoterms, commodity codes, tariffs, duties and VAT.
  • Commercial invoice generation and tariff knowledge.
  • International shipping and Customs clearance.
  • Freight forwarding.
  • Third Party logistics.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinating and being the key contact with external service providers, i.e., third party logistics, carriers, freight forwarders etc for import and export activities.
  • Management of electronic import shipment notifications.
  • Preparation and issuing of import instructions to brokers for the release of goods by customs.
  • Provide instruction to shipping and freight forwarders for the import and export of goods.
  • Commercial invoice generation and full understanding of tariff implications.
  • Maintain and generate all records including but not limited to daily import and export transaction logs
  • Work efficiently, collaboratively and co-operatively between relevant departments including Spare Parts, Distribution and Management.
  • Continually strive to improve the Import/Export process and introduce methods to reduce transportation costs i.e. consolidated shipments, direct shipping etc.
  • Continually monitor performance and identify KPI’s for the Import/Export function.
  • Implement corrective action initiatives to improve performance where and when needed
  • Ensure that company Health and safety procedures and policies are followed at all times.
