Description

A global freight forwarding company is seeking an Import Manager to join their office in Detroit, MI. Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in Air and Ocean Import operations at a freight forwarding company, including experience in a managerial or supervisory role Japanese Freight Forwarding company work experience is highly preferred but not mandatory. This is a full-time position, exempt, with excellent benefits.

IMPORT MANAGER SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Air and Ocean Import operations at a freight forwarding company, including experience in a managerial or supervisory role
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with negotiating with ocean, NVOCC, and trucking companies
  • Good at creating working instruction, SOP
  • Familiarity with TSA-Indirect Air Carriers
  • Excellent computer skills: Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience working at Japanese freight forwarding company a big plus
  • Knowledge on how to arrange ocean/air import and ocean/air export
  • Contract negotiation and concluding service contracts with VOCC / NVOCC
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to frequently sit and occasionally must stand, walk, use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that Departure Confirmations with Carriers are executed by staff
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment on a regular basis to direct documentation agents to achieve service center goals
  • Negotiate and complete contracts and agreements with vendors regarding transportation, customs, etc. for domestic and international shipments
  • Delegates and advises employees on work procedures and practices
  • Motivates, develops and mentors employees for improved performance.
  • Responsible for customer satisfaction and customer retention by implementing effective service capabilities
  • Manage adherence to U.S. customs, TSA, and all other government agencies
  • Arrange Ocean/Air Import/Export shipments
  • Other duties as assigned
