Description

Horizon Forest Products is a leading distributor of prefinished and unfinished hardwood flooring, plywood, lumber, floor equipment, abrasives, finishes, and sundry products across the Eastern U.S., with additional locations in Texas. As we continue to expand, we are looking for a talented, results-driven professional to join our team.
The Importer plays a critical role in driving the efficiency and success of the company’s global supply chain. This position is responsible for sourcing goods from international markets, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring products enter domestic markets seamlessly and in compliance with all applicable regulations. The Importer will evaluate vendors, negotiate favorable contracts, coordinate logistics, and oversee all documentation related to imports. Success in this role requires strong knowledge of global trade practices, attention to detail, and the ability to balance cost-effectiveness with compliance and quality standards.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in import/export operations, global sourcing, or supply chain management.
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, international trade laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation management abilities.
  • Ability to analyze data and market trends to make strategic sourcing decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, assess, and recommend international suppliers that meet company requirements for cost, quality, and reliability.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, and conditions with suppliers to secure competitive advantages and maintain profitability.
  • Ensure all import activities meet applicable customs laws, trade regulations, and industry standards; collaborate with customs and shipping brokers.
  • Oversee transportation and delivery of imported goods, ensuring schedules are met and shipments are properly documented.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of contracts, purchase orders, invoices, bills of lading, and other import documentation.
  • Monitor international trade trends, supplier markets, and changes in trade policy to inform sourcing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with international suppliers and logistics partners, proactively addressing challenges to ensure smooth operations.
