Description Job Title: Inclusion Aide Department: Recreation Classification: Part-Time Salary Range: $16.00-$19.00/Hourly IMRF Position: No DESCRIPTION Inclusion Aide shall assist participants with special needs to participate in program activities and stimulate individual growth. Inclusion Aides may be hired to support a wide range of recreation programs including, but not limited to Summer Camp, Before and After School program, swim lessons, and sports activities. Depending upon the individual participant you are assigned to, and the activity they are enrolled in, your supervisor will be the specific supervisor of that activity Requirements JOB REQUIREMENTS Must be 17 years of age. Previous experience working with special needs children desired. Successfully complete pre-employment background check. Minimum high school diploma. Studying or a Degree in Special Education or Therapeutic Recreation preferred. First-Aid, CPR, AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days. Decision-making ability, conflict resolution and organizational skills required. Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district values. Must possess good communication and customer service skills. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and reliable transportation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the individual(s) in participating in all activities at the program. Assist with adapting activities, rules, equipment, and/or supplies as needed to ensure quality participation, as well as the most independent participation possible. Act as an advocate for the participant. Emphasize the individual’s abilities and similarities. Provides specific behavior modifications for participant (training will be provided). Encourage participation and development of friendships. Follow participant plans at all times. Provide behavior management when necessary. Communicate daily with parents. Punch in/out with timekeeping system for each of your scheduled shifts. Assist the Program Leader with planning and implementing daily activities. Offer suggestions for adaptations if applicable. Ensure that safety policies are adhered to by all staff and participants. Keep participants safe at all times. Know whereabouts of assigned participant(s) at all times. Accurately complete timesheets and variety of other reports. Wear Park District staff shirt and identification during all work hours. Make sure the parent is signed in and/or out (including time). MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Respond to parent concerns. Inventory equipment and supplies. PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to tolerate sun, light rain, heat and humidity. While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen. Employee is required to stand, walk and use hands. Employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop or kneel, lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision requirements include, distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to follow supervisor directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities. PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS Must demonstrate leadership qualities. May have to deal with stressful situations. Must be able to respond to needs of participants with disabilities. Serves as a positive role model for young participants. Resolves differences and problems that may arise between campers and works together with employees. COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS Must be organized, with a good interpersonal communication skills, supervisory skills, safety awareness and sound judgment. SAFETY AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents. Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future. Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness. Worker will use all required PPE.
