Description
Do you have a passion for supporting children, young people and their families? If you have a strong inclusive ethos and a desire to see improved life chances for young people, with the confidence that you can affect the right support at the right time for all children and young people in East Sussex, this could be the role for you! This post will cover the Hastings, Rother and Rye area with training and meetings across the county. The candidate will be required to travel within this region on a regular basis.  We are seeking an Adviser in the Inclusion and Alternative Provision team, for 3 days a week for a fixed term maternity cover until 13 April 2027. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to advise and support schools to provide evidence informed interventions for our most vulnerable children who are at risk of isolation through suspension and permanent exclusion.  This will include supporting the Deputy Service Manager: Inclusion and Alternative Provision in ensuring school staff are advised and supported in maintaining an inclusive environment, reducing children’s experiences of exclusion from the classroom and the school community. You will work strategically to identify ways to focus the offer to schools and provide the support that makes a difference for children and young people. You will use research to inform practise and will use data to strategically inform relevant and bespoke interventions including the development of training for staff.  You will be highly effective at establishing working relationships with partners and promoting inclusive approaches to parents/carers, service users and the schools across the primary and secondary phases as well as specialist settings. This role will involve facilitating complex multi-agency meetings and sharing your expertise on the approaches that have the most impact for vulnerable children and young people.  You will work closely with the Team Leader: Extended Support so that support, including implementing strategies to prevent exclusion and support reintegration, is allocated equitably and effectively not only from schools but also from alternative provision.  The support you provide will be instrumental in our ability to deliver our vision of relentlessly pursuing positive outcomes for children and young people and enabling them to thrive. As a member of the Inclusion and Alternative Provision team, you will be part of an innovative Education Division which is unique to East Sussex. As part of an experienced and supportive team, you will be responsible for working with primary and secondary schools in the following areas:  * Analysing need, particularly in the context of multiple, interactive factors which impact on a child’s presentation in school * Planning for meeting the needs of children with complex profiles * Engaging with families and services and using that engagement to inform provision mapping * Bringing services together through multi-agency meetings to establish clear action plans and clearly define responsibilities within that * Identify service development areas based on thorough analysis of data and stakeholder engagement * Build capacity for inclusion within schools, including through: training; modelling practice; enabling reflective spaces; utilising available funding streams; and timely access to alternative provision * Promoting a holistic understanding of behaviour and the many factors which can impact on a child’s presentation in school * Complementing schools' awareness and understanding of relevant legislation and government guidance as well as research and debate in the area of behaviour   We are looking for candidates who: * Have QTS and demonstrable experience in schools * Have a genuine interest and skill in developing practice in schools and developing professional and supportive relationships * Have experience of providing challenge to professionals and parents/colleagues whilst remaining calm and child focused * Have specialist knowledge of effective methodologies for supporting children and young people with SEND, including SEMH, in mainstream schools * Have a passion for education and a desire to make a difference.  We are seeking someone who will be highly motivated, a creative thinker and be committed to the inclusion agenda. You will champion our most vulnerable children and young people and ensure that decision making is driven by their experiences and aspirations.  If you believe you have the key skills, experience, and attributes we are looking for then we want to hear from you.
