Description The Inclusion Program Teacher is a key member of the Westfield Area YMCA's Adaptive Programming team. This role is ideal for someone with a background in cooking or nutrition who is passionate about creating accessible and engaging learning opportunities for adults with special needs. Under the direction of the Inclusion Program Coordinator, the Inclusion Program Teacher is responsible for assisting with specially designed programs to provide instruction , serving as the lead instructor for our Adapt-Ability Cooking Class. This position plays an essential role in promoting independence, confidence, social connection, and healthy living skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. Schedule: Adapt-Ability Cooking Class: Monday afternoon/evenings (starting January) Pay Range: $22-$26/hour; depending on experience and education. Benefits: - Complimentary YMCA membership (for duration of employment). - Discounts on select child care programs - Retirement Savings Plan 403(b) Primary Responsibilities: - Plan, lead, and implement adaptive cooking and nutrition lessons tailored to participants’ abilities, interests, and goals. - Collaborate with the Inclusion Program Coordinator to ensure lessons include appropriate accommodations and modifications. - Promote independence by teaching kitchen safety, basic cooking techniques, recipe following, and healthy eating habits. - Foster positive social interactions and group engagement throughout classes and activities. - Communicate effectively with participants, caregivers, and supervisors regarding progress, needs, and any observed concerns. - Identify opportunities to enhance program quality, accessibility, or curriculum content. - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and program environment. - Ensure proper use, cleaning, and storage of materials, ingredients, and equipment. - Respond calmly, appropriately, and efficiently to participant needs or unexpected situations. - Model the YMCA’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. For more information, please visit our website: https://westfieldynj.org/ Requirements - Must be at least 18 years old. - Background in cooking, culinary artis, nutrition, or related field strongly preferred. - Minimum of 1 year experience working with individuals with disabilities or enrollment/completion of coursework in Special Education, Social Work, or a related field. - Experience teaching, coaching, or leading small groups preferred. - Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to adapt lessons and support participants with varying ability levels. - BLS and First Aid certifications required (training may be provided by the Y as needed).
