DO YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITHIN A REVENUES OR INCOME COLLECTION ENVIRONMENT INCLUDING THE RECOVERY AND COLLECTION OF MONIES DUE?

We have an opportunity for an experienced Income Enforcement Officer to join our high performing Income Collection Team, who are responsible for collecting over £300 million of income each year to fund vital council services.
As Income Enforcement Officer you will take ownership of the effective collection of monies due to the council including Council Tax, Non Domestic Rates, Business Improvement District (BID), Housing Benefit Overpayments and Sundry Debts from summons stage onwards (or equivalent escalation).

You will:

  • Take a holistic view of monies owed in order to maximise income to the Council.
  • Deal with complex enquiries from internal and external customers and respond in writing, on the telephone or face to face as appropriate taking ownership of the enquiry until fully resolved.
  • Review customers income and expenditure to agree affordable repayment plans and advise on ways to maximise income.
  • Organise, prepare and present cases at the Magistrates Court and County Court depending on the type of debt outstanding.
  • Signpost customers to other teams and partner organisations as appropriate

We understand that this is a difficult time with a national increase in the cost of living, so our team are working hard to provide our residents with support and assistance, whilst creating manageable payment plans wherever possible.
You will have a minimum of 4 passes at GCSE Grade A*-C (4-9) including English and Mathematics (or equivalent) or the ability to demonstrate an equivalent level of literacy and numeracy.

You will also need:

  • Recent and relevant experience of working in revenues environment including recovery and collection of monies due.
  • Knowledge of revenues and/or a debtors computer systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of local taxation legislation relating to council tax and business rates, revenues processes and recovery methods available.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to compose non–standard letters/emails
  • Ability to deal with customer queries in a calm, professional and confident manner and use your initiative to find effective solutions to maximise income collection.
