Description

Monarch Recovery Services is a non-indigenous bed based treatment program. We are able to offer Indigenous specific sessions to both our Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients with the support with the Federal Government NNADAP funding. This position requires that the counsellor work as part of the counselling team at Women’s Treatment, and maintain a caseload of Indigenous clients primarily, but not limited to. In order to undertake community-based activities to support the project funding, the Indigenous Addiction Counsellor will carry out programming offered at the Monarch Recovery Services and will seek to: reduce the high levels of alcohol and other substance with this community population, develop and deliver culturally appropriate addiction services, increase awareness about alcohol and substance abuse issues and promote alternate healthier lifestyles, strengthen links between community and the treatment program, provide support to individuals and families in post treatment. These objectives will be met through activities/services that address: Prevention, Intervention and Aftercare/Follow-Up.
We are seeking 1 Indigenous Addicition Counsellor to work full-time at our women’s treatment program site. This is a contract position for 12 months. The job duties include the provision of individual, group, family counseling and providing support to women and their family post treatment. The staff will develop and deliver culturally appropriate service and strengthen linkages with community and treatment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor degree in human services, from an accredited university, with appropriate experience in counselling
· Eligible for membership in a professional college
· Experience and knowledge of addictions, women’s issues, trauma-informed, physical and sexual abuse and Indigenous culture
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Bilingual in both official languages is an asset.
