TERM PART-TIME POSITION IN SQUAMISH VALLEY CLOSES:  Open Until Filled BE PART OF SOMETHING MEANINGFUL!  Working as an integral part of the Ta na wa Yúus ta Stitúyntsam̓ (Rights and Title Department), this position reports directly to the Indigenous Monitor Program Manager. This position will monitor construction of the WoodfibreLNG Facility, at Swiyat on behalf of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw. The monitor will work closely with the other Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Indigenous Monitors and the WoodfibreLNG environmental monitoring team to observe construction activities, discuss concerns, and find solutions. You will be the eyes and ears for the Nation on-site. The position is a shift-based schedule (3-5 days per week), with a 9-hour workday.   Given the position is located at a remote (boat access only) construction site, some days may require additional time on site. Computer, iPad, and personal protective equipment will be provided. This role will require drug and alcohol testing in advance of working on-site and random drug and alcohol testing may be required thereafter if an incident occurs.  WHAT YOU’LL DO * Attend daily meetings. * Keep up-to-date on construction schedules and areas of interest. * Work with the Environmental Inspection Team on site to monitor environmental, cultural, archaeological components of the project (this could include plants of importance to the Nation, fish protection, wildlife sightings, cultural sites, water crossings, archaeology sites, erosion and sediment control, etc).  * Collect samples as appropriate. * Report concerns to the environmental inspection team on site and to the supervisor. * Make recommendations to mitigate concerns identified, as appropriate, based on your skills and experience. * Represents Squamish Nation interests during construction and communicates Squamish Nation priorities/concerns as appropriate. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR * Knowledge of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh traditional teachings is an excellent foundational asset. * Experience in oil and gas, forestry, or mining industries would be an asset. * Good written and verbal communication skills * Experience and/or interest in environmental and cultural monitoring. * Previous administrative experience and/or working in a First Nations community (particularly Squamish) * Knowledge of Squamish Nation, Squamish language (Skwxwú7mesh Snichim), and First Nations governance is strongly preferred. * Experience working with Indigenous communities, Boards, or government organizations is an asset. * Cultural humility and respect for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh values, sovereignty, and self-determination. * Demonstrates extensive knowledge of, and strong connection to, the Squamish community. Responsibilities
The Indigenous Monitor will observe construction activities at the WoodfibreLNG Facility and report any concerns to the environmental inspection team. They will also work closely with the Indigenous Monitors and the environmental team to ensure that the Squamish Nation's interests are represented.
