Program Coordinator
24 hours per week for a 11-month contract possibly leading to casual work
LIFE Recovery Association is a registered charity and Christian ministry that exists to support women in recovery from addiction. We provide abstinence-based programs in 4 homes in the Clearbrook Corridor of Abbotsford, BC. Thrift for LIFE and LIFE’s Second Chance were developed to raise funds to subsidize program costs at LIFE. It is an extension of the ministry through its community outreach and volunteer engagement.
JOB SUMMARY -PRIMARY FOCUS
The Indigenous Peer Support and Outreach Worker is a new role at LIFE Recovery, funded by a SUAP – Substance Use and Addictions grant. The goal is to enhance supports to Indigenous residents by:
1) helping to create a culturally safe environment
2) offering resources and direction to residents and co-workers
3) connecting with local service providers and potential residents
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum of one (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
· Strong analytical skills and decision-making ability
· Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and situations
· Current Class 5 Drivers License (minimum)
· Current Naloxone, Food Safe and First Aid Certification
· Sobriety of at least TWO years (no abuse of alcohol, drugs, or other mood-altering substances)
· Understanding of the impact of residential schools is key
· Understanding of generational trauma is key
· Knowledge of alcohol & drug and mental health disorders is an asset
- As required under the Assisted Living Act: “a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in one or more of the following subjects or a willingness to complete this within the first 90 days:
o counselling;
o crisis intervention and conflict resolution;
o psychosocial intervention for substance use disorders;
o trauma-informed practice”
Hours of work: 24 hours weekly, days of work to be determined based on community engagement opportunities and program needs. Evening and weekends may be required in a 24/7 operation.
This is an 11-month contract with compensation of $30.00 per hour. There are no benefits, and you will be responsible for any payments or deductions required by the Canada Revenue Agency for earned income.

Responsibilities:
· Identify knowledge gaps
· Identify culturally safe practices that would be complementary to the current program
· Provide LIFE with resources and information to enhance supports for pre and post admission and while in the program
· Create and facilitate a learning event for LIFE staff, volunteers and residents
· Engage with local service providers including: Fraser Valley Metis Association, Stó:lō Service Agency, local bands, First Nations Health Authority and other similar agencies for resources for Indigenous women in addiction and recovery with a focus on relapse prevention
· Provide peer support to Indigenous women in the program
· Provide outreach services to customers at LIFE’s thrift stores or those living unhoused near LIFE’s facilities
- Transport clients to appointments and offsite activities, as needed
- To better understand the current program and needs, support the general programming at LIFE with occasional Support Worker shift coverage (role description available on request)
