INDIGENOUS RELATIONS COORDINATOR

The Indigenous Relations Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting Indigenous women and families residing at SOFIA House through culturally grounded, trauma-informed programming. This position ensures Indigenous Ways of Knowing are embedded across shelter services and supports residents in reconnecting with cultural identity, wellness practices, and community resources.
The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Program Manager, fellow Program Coordinators, and Harm Reduction staff to build cultural safety, respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, and support residents on their healing journeys. The role also involves strengthening relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous organizations to ensure community-rooted and accessible programming.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Human Justice, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with Indigenous families and communities, with knowledge of local Nations and cultural protocols.
  • Deep understanding of the impacts of colonization, residential schools, and intergenerational trauma.
  • Experience applying trauma-informed, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive approaches in community-based work.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, including comfort with written casework and reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants.
