Métis Calgary Family Services has offered over 30 years of various outreach, early intervention childhood & youth focused cultural programs and services , in-home support, supportive housing, and referral services for Indigenous youth & families. Youth Workers work with Indigenous youth and their families in their homes, schools, and communities. This Indigenous Youth Worker position is designed to work in collaboration with youth experiencing challenges, within the educational systems , with social and cultural loss utilizing a strengths based supportive & collaborative approach to educational success for youth who may be at risk or in need of supports. Indigenous Youth Worker, works one to one and in groups with Aboriginal youth, their families in their homes, schools, and communities. This Indigenous Youth Worker position works in collaboration with Native Network Family Resource Centre, Rainbow Lodge Supportive Housing and various community partners, cultural resources & stake holders including schools and post secondary institutions, utilizing Positive & Traditional Role Modeling strategies, Triple P Positive Parenting strategies & other evidence based culturally relevant approaches incorporating Ke Mama Nnanik philosophy for Early Intervention, Prevention and referral services with Indigenous youth & families.
Métis Calgary Family Services requires a full or part-time, term Indigenous Youth Worker to work with youth & families within the community.
The position is based on a 40 hour work week, must be flexible. Work includes days and evenings and occasional weekends.
Our Team is seeking a highly motivated independent individual who is Youth focused, friendly, responsible, organized, possess a valid class 4 Alberta drivers license as well as a clean Criminal Record with recent Vulnerable Sector, Child Intervention Check and Driver’s Abstract.
A reliable vehicle is a requirement.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Understanding and compassion working with Indigenous families.
Exceptional time management skills.
Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of the TRC 94 calls to action and
United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Knowledge and respect of Indigenous culture and traditional healing methods.
Respectful of individual and cultural diversity.
Must have knowledge of the Canadian Accreditation Council of Human Services, standards of practice.
Ability to speak in an Indigenous language of Turtle Island.
