We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Indirect Taxes Manager to join our team in London, Leeds or work remotely. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to our taxation strategy and manage all indirect taxes for QBE European Operations (EO), including Europe and the UK. ABOUT YOU:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Communicates effectively and has strong change management skills.
  • Has the ability to generate solutions and collaborate effectively, with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Can build strong business relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Is a qualified tax professional (preferably with a CTA qualification).
  • Has demonstratable, strong experience in UK indirect taxes (VAT and IPT).
  • Possesses tax accounting skills
  • Has a thorough understanding of the tax environment and the indirect tax ramifications on commercial decisions.
  • Is knowledgeable about financial processes.
  • Has experience managing the Risk & Control environment.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager / Regional Head of Tax to actively manage portfolio compliance.
  • Previous experience leading and developing a remote team

Responsibilities

As the Indirect Tax Manager, you will:

  • Contribute to the development of taxation strategy and prioritise operational deliverables and team priorities.
  • Manage the tactical plan and support others to achieve positive business results in line with the strategy.
  • Keep the Head of Tax informed of all indirect tax issues that could affect EO’s performance and any trends impacting long-term goals.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of timely and accurate indirect tax computations and returns, ensuring adherence to internal procedures and external regulations.
  • Forecast indirect tax liabilities and ensure timely payments to contribute to effective financial management.
  • Provide indirect tax input on planning and transactions to identify tax implications and minimise costs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure service delivery meets expectations.
  • Act as the principal contact with HMRC and other tax authorities on relevant indirect tax issues, ensuring accurate completion of all regulatory procedures.
  • Communicate key risk issues to the EO Head of Tax and relevant colleagues to highlight exposures and share information.
  • Ensure technical updates and training are provided to improve knowledge of relevant taxation issues across EO.
  • Monitor workload levels and manage delegation of tasks to ensure accurate and successful completion within required timescales.
  • Support the continuing personal and professional development of the Tax Accountant.
  • Collaborate with colleagues globally, including indirect tax team members in our Tax Operations centre in The Philippines, to ensure the overall output and quality of the service provided is within specified levels.
  • Take ownership of your learning and development of skills, sharing knowledge with colleagues to ensure tax technical knowledge remains current.
