INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN / ELECTRICAL FITTER - HV & LV ELECTRICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • New Zealand Electrical Registration as an Industrial Electrician or Electrical Fitter with a current practising licence (or equivalent recognised qualification).
  • Demonstrated experience or enthusiasm to learn skills in HV and LV electrical infrastructure construction and maintenance, including substations, switchgear and other network-connected equipment.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills in industrial and infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to interpret and work from electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and network documentation.
  • Knowledge of SCADA and communication systems, automation, and electrical protection systems would be an advantage although training will be provided.
  • Commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Current class 1 New Zealand drivers’ licence (class 2 an advantage).
  • Legally able to work in New Zealand.
Responsibilities

THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Industrial Electrician / Electrical Fitter to join our team. This role covers the installation, maintenance, and repair of high(HV) and low(LV) voltage network-connected electrical infrastructure. This work includes building and maintaining substations, transformers, switchgear, and other network equipment. You will be working on critical infrastructure projects where safety, quality, and reliability are paramount.

You’ll bring strong written and oral English skills, an open mind, and confidence to bring new ideas to the table. The role is full time (40 hours per week).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, install, and maintain HV and LV electrical infrastructure, including substations, network equipment, switchgear, transformers, distribution boards, and cable systems.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot, control panel wiring, control and protection systems, and PLC-based equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HV and LV assets to maximise reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Carry out fitting, wiring, and assembly work from technical schematics, single-line diagrams, and network drawings.
  • Conduct electrical testing, fault finding, and commissioning in accordance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Ensure all work complies with electrical regulations, safety requirements, and quality procedures.
  • Collaborate with other trades, engineers, and project teams to deliver projects on time and to specification.
  • Opportunity to join a regular roster for on-call work, responding to urgent network and infrastructure issues as needed.
  • Willingness to undertake project work away from home from time to time.
