Description

INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN

Port Otago Group’s business comprises a regional container terminal, bulk port activities, cruise and property investment and development. We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Port Otago has a rare opportunity for a suitably experienced Industrial Electrician to work within our Maintenance team on a permanent full-time basis, working on some of Dunedin’s biggest, tallest, and most complex equipment.
Reporting to our Electrical Supervisor, this role focuses on providing routine electrical support, including (but not limited to) scheduled maintenance, diagnosing breakdowns, and repairing faults across Port Otago’s diverse assets. These include Ship-to-Shore Cranes, mobile fleet equipment (such as straddle carriers and empty container handlers), as well as marine equipment, fixed plant, ancillary equipment, and electrical infrastructure networks.
This position is critical for ensuring the sound operation of these assets, and you will be responsible for troubleshooting and problem-solving electrical faults quickly to minimise downtime.

Our Maintenance team provides 24-hour technical support to Container Vessel operation activities based on shipping schedules and planned maintenance activities. As part of our team, you will be provided with an indicative weekly roster each Friday which includes one guaranteed day off (GDO) to help support work/home balance. In addition to the GDO the indicative roster includes:

  • Indicative roster for Tues/Wed/Thu/Fri (actual roster confirmed by 1500 day prior).
  • Confirmed roster for Sat/Sun/Mon.
  • A guaranteed minimum of 40 hours each week (4 x 10-hour shifts or 5 x 8-hour shifts depending on your team rotation).
  • Indicative notice if overtime shifts may be required (up to 50 hours) which are typically needed during our peak season
