Description
General Information: Job Title: Industrial Engineer (Solution Design) Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite/Hybrid) Job Type: Full-Time Reporting Line: Director of Product Strategy Travel Expectations: 0-10% Salary Range: Base Compensation: ~$120k–$135k CAD per year (negotiable) About Fulfillment IQ (FIQ): Fulfillment IQ is a supply chain engineering and transformation company that helps brands, retailers, and 3PLs design, build, and scale high-performance logistics operations. We work at the intersection of strategy, operations, and technology where we solve complex, real-world problems across warehouse design, automation, order management, transportation, and end-to-end supply chain execution. Our teams combine deep domain expertise with strong technical capability, delivering outcomes through consulting, systems implementation, and proprietary platforms that accelerate time-to-value and reduce delivery risk. If you enjoy working in complex environments, partnering closely with clients, and seeing your work make a tangible impact on how global commerce moves, this is the place where your skills and judgment truly come to life. Role Overview: We are looking for a Senior Industrial Engineer (Solution Design) who can go beyond traditional warehouse design and help shape how complex operational systems are defined, modeled, and scaled. This role sits at the intersection of industrial engineering, product development, and computational modeling. You will not only design warehouse solutions but also play a key role in structuring and standardizing design logic into reusable frameworks that power next-generation solution design systems. You’ll have the opportunity to influence how system design evolves—moving from one-off solutions to scalable, repeatable approaches. This is a high-ownership role, ideal for someone who enjoys working in ambiguous, early-stage environments and building from first principles. Mandate: Translate real-world warehouse design into structured logic Build reusable domain models for system design Bridge operations with product and computational systems Must Have: 5–10+ years of industrial engineering experience in warehouse, logistics, or 3PL environments Hands-on experience designing warehouse layouts, staffing models, and process flows Strong understanding of warehouse operations (inbound, outbound, storage, fulfillment) Experience with labor modeling, productivity drivers, and equipment selection Ability to translate real-world systems into structured logic and models Familiarity with spreadsheet-driven modeling approaches Exposure to analytical tools (SQL, Python) is preferred Experience in consulting, solution design, or operational engineering environments Key Responsibilities: System Design & Problem Structuring Design end-to-end warehouse and logistics systems Break down workflows into structured components (processes, constraints, decision points) Translate ambiguous requirements into model-ready problem definitions Domain Modeling & Knowledge Structuring Convert operational know-how into structured frameworks, rules, and parameters Define and refine process assumptions (time standards, throughput, resource utilization) Create reusable representations of system components, such as: Labor and staffing models Equipment and infrastructure choices Space and flow design principles Product & Modeling Collaboration Work with product and engineering teams to translate domain logic into scalable systems Define how trade-offs (cost, service, space, throughput) are represented in models Support the development of systems that evaluate multiple design scenarios Validation & Continuous Improvement Validate system outputs against real-world feasibility Identify gaps between models and execution Continuously refine system logic based on feedback Qualifications & Skills: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Supply Chain, or a related field Experience in consulting, solution design, or operational engineering environments is highly valued Proven experience working as a Solutions Engineer or Industrial Engineer within large-scale 3PL, logistics, or supply chain organizations (senior-level experience preferred) Strong understanding of warehouse design, operational workflows, and end-to-end solutioning in logistics environments Ability to translate operational requirements into structured models and scalable design frameworks Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days: 30 Days In: Understand & Deconstruct the Problem Build a deep understanding of how warehouse design is currently done (internally and across design partners) Clearly map the end-to-end solution design process (demand → process → labor → space → cost) Identify and document key inputs, assumptions, and decision drivers used in real-world designs Begin structuring core components such as: Process time standards Labor modeling logic Equipment and facility constraints Establish strong working cadence with Product, Engineering, and the Chief Scientist 60 Days In: Structure & Encode Core Logic Translate real-world design thinking into structured frameworks and reusable logic Build initial versions of: Process and throughput models Staffing and labor assumptions Equipment and space allocation rules Contribute to defining: Key system inputs Constraints and boundaries Decision variables that drive design outcomes Start testing structured logic against historical RFPs or known designs 90 Days In: Validate & Enable the System Deliver a usable domain foundation that supports the scenario engine and early modeling efforts Validate system outputs against real-world designs and identify gaps or inaccuracies Refine assumptions and logic based on feedback from internal teams and design partners Enable the system to produce credible, defensible design outputs for initial use cases Establish a repeatable approach for continuously improving and expanding the model Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Quality and scalability of design frameworks Accuracy of system-generated outputs vs real-world designs Contribution to domain modeling and system logic Cross-functional collaboration with product and engineering Impact on solution design efficiency and repeatability Why You’ll Love Working Here: At Fulfillment IQ, we don’t just build supply chain solutions; we build long-term careers.
