BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state. BWC offers flex-time work schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am. Flex-time schedules are based on operational need and require supervisor approval. What You’ll Be Doing: Supervises and reviews the performance of the Industrial Rehabilitation Nurses (IRNs) and mentors the nurses on problem solving and resolution of complex medical treatment and claim issues that arise within workers' compensation claims. Reviews work performed by the nurses and provides ongoing feedback to improve timeliness, quality, consistency, customer service and compliance with policy and procedures and to ensure employee engagement. Maintains management reports that are essential to evaluating staff productivity, performance, referral volume and case load, as applicable, and adjusts staffing patterns as needed. Reviews claim files and consults with the BWC IRN, MCOs, claim staff, legal, and medical administration, as appropriate, on complex medical and claim issues to assist in resolution of issues. Facilitates internal and external communication and training for the BWC nurses and MCO colleagues to ensure understanding of policies, procedures, and emerging clinical practices related to services as provided by the BWC nurses. To Qualify, You Must Clearly Demonstrate: 6 months training. or 6 months experience in Bureau of Workers' Compensation laws AND 6 months training or 6 months experience in departmental policies & procedures relating to review & processing of medical claims of disabled or industrially diseased workers AND 3 months training or 3 months experience in interviewing AND 3 months training or 3 months experience in public relations AND 1 course or 3 months experience in statistics AND current & valid license to practice professional nursing as Registered Nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code; 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in nursing. -Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure. Job Skills: Nursing Educational Transcripts: For any educational achievements to be considered during the screening process, you must at least attach an unofficial transcript that details the coursework you have completed. Major Worker Characteristics: Knowledge of nursing; medical case management; medical coding*, HIPAA regulations; federal & state laws & department rules governing workers’ compensation & medical claims; interviewing*; human relations; supervisory principles & techniques; BWC policies & procedures*. Skill in use of personal computer; use of Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and other relevant computer applications; use of office equipment (e.g., copier, printer); medical coding; problem resolution; interpersonal skills. Ability to manage and lead others; analyze and resolve problems and make sound, impartial recommendations; teach and instruct others; analyze research data and utilize findings; work independently with limited direct supervision. UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: This position may be required to travel; therefore, incumbents must be able to provide own transportation &/or legally drive state-owned vehicle. This position is Overtime Exempt. Valid R.N. License This position requires a current & valid license to practice professional nursing as registered nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code. To remain in this classification after employment, incumbent is required to renew license to practice as a registered nurse on a biennial basis. **This position does not offer supplemental or shift differential pay.** Background Check & Drug Test Prior to an offer of employment, the final applicant will be required to sign a background check authorization form and undergo a criminal background check.
