Classification Title: Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene (S&H) Supervisor Grade: 27 - 28 (depending on experience) Requisition No.: 2732 Number of Positions: 1 Location: ORNL Nuc Ops Organization: Safety and Security Officer Department: Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene Project Assignment:   Posting Date: 5/21/2026 Closing Date: 5/28/2026 Duties: The Industrial S&H Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of project level Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene staff. Supervising the staff includes facilitating the Integrated Safety Management System and S&H program requirements into day-to-day project task-level work activities. In addition, the S&H Supervisor identifies and mitigates hazards, ensures regulatory compliance, and helps management, workers, and oversight officials align with the shared goal of safe and efficient work. Principal Responsibilities: * Under minimal direction supervises and leads a team of professionals within the assigned SH team including Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety at the project level. Providing leadership, technical and functional guidance to the project SH team. * Under minimal direction administer the Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety program at the project level. * Implements and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures on the project level. * Provides technical leadership and functional guidance. * Leads and execute complex technical initiatives across key health and safety disciplines, Fall Protection, LOTO, Confined Space, Hoisting & Rigging, ensuring full compliance with ES&H standards and all applicable federal and state regulations. * Has demonstrated knowledge and maintains expert knowledge of all utilized SH policies and procedures and performs duties in a safe manner. Responsible for the safety of those being supervised and ensure they comply with the established safety policies and practice safe work habits. * Monitor all SH work practices in the assigned work area. Additionally serving as a matrixed SH professional to the project radiological protection organization for additional oversite of the assigned project Radiological Protection Program. * Maintain technical and field knowledge of the assigned work area. * Utilizes scientific methods to identify potential hazards, including chemical, physical and biological agents. * Has knowledge to develop programs that will address inadequacies in the safety and health program. * Inspects, monitors and evaluates project SH programs for value and effectiveness. * Ensure strict adherence to OSHA, ACGIH, ANSI, and UCOR company policies and procedures. * Conducts evaluations of assigned areas to detect Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety problems, directs and assures regular SH related inspections and surveillance of the workplace assigned. * Analyzes project related SH problems and provides recommendations and solutions to the problems. * Prepares, maintains reports and documentation concerning safety management programs. Recommend related corrective actions. * Develops safety awareness and fosters awareness with applicable means of communication. * Participate in job planning evolutions. * Review operations ensuring implementation of company procedures and project work control documents. * Provide training and hazard communication. * Conducts investigations of project accidents, incidents, near-misses, and establish corrective actions for identified potential unhealthy conditions. * Review, analysis and approve industrial hygiene and industrial safety program records as required to fulfill the Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety field support function. * Oversee surveys of work areas or operations to identify, evaluate, and control potential worker health risk. * Attend meetings to communicate program issues and expectations to the work force. Job Knowledge: * Knowledge and understanding of the elements and attributes of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and of the Integrates Management System (ISMS), as defined in the UCOR PPD-1400, Integrated Safety Management System Description. * Knowledge of and practical application of industrial hygiene and industrial safety procedures and governmental regulations and practices. * Experience in industrial hygiene and industrial safety oversight/compliance activities. * Knowledge and understanding of the assigned SH discipline standards, procedures, rules and regulations. * Skills in verbal and written communications.   Job-Related Qualifications Required: Education: Bachelor’s degree in safety and health (SH) discipline or related science/engineering area applicable to the program to be supported. Experience: Minimum of 10 yrs. relevant experience. Professional certification in a relevant discipline including one of the following is preferred: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Health Physicist (CHP) or the ability to obtain professional certification.     Relocation: ☐ YES ☒ NO UCOR prohibits smoking in enclosed areas, including company vehicles.
