The Western Australian Police Union of Workers (WAPU) is expanding its Industrial Team seeking a dedicated Industrial Officer and Senior Industrial Officer to play pivotal roles in advocating for the rights and interests of police officers throughout WA. You will provide industrial relations advice, represent members in disputes, negotiate workplace agreements and ensure compliance with relevant industrial laws and regulations, working closely with the union leadership. The Senior Industrial Officer will additionally represent WAPU within the WA Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) and the WA Industrial Magistrates Court (WAIMC) and collaborate on negotiating WA Police Industrial Agreements to secure the best possible outcomes for members.

Responsibilities

SENIOR INDUSTRIAL OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide expert, compassionate and timely industrial advice and representation to WAPU members in disputes and relevant forums.
  • Lead negotiation strategies for industrial agreements to secure the best wage outcomes and working conditions for WA Police Officers.
  • Lead and support Industrial Officers, enhancing their skills through training and guidance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, police, unions and other key stakeholders to promote WAPU members’ interests.
  • Stay informed on legislation, industrial trends and compliance issues; contribute to policy development and influence legislative change.

INDUSTRIAL OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate industrial services and representation for WAPU members in disputes and grievances.
  • Participate in workplace and industrial agreement negotiations to improve members’ working conditions and entitlements.
  • Manage industrial relations matters in line with WAPU policies, maintaining accurate case records.
  • Conduct research to monitor compliance, identify breaches and address non-compliance effectively.
  • Maintain positive relationships with WA Police Force and stakeholders to resolve workplace issues and ensure compliance with agreements and laws.
