    The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Officer - General to provide a critical role at the Beechworth Correctional Centre.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant trade qualifications or experience in cabinet making, carpentry, timber joinery, or building industry.
  • Successful completion of the Prison Officer pre-service course within 6 months of commencement (mandatory).
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Industry Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within prison industries. This includes assisting with the management of prisoner employment, safe operating procedures and other Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements, and compliance with prison industry procedures.
Industry Officers may be required to work in various industry areas or the prison according to operational requirements.
The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide supervision and training to prisoners who are employed in the prisons commercial and service industries
  • Effectively manage all work areas to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners for compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety, and security procedures
  • Oversee the allocation and control of raw materials and tools to prisoners ensuring that all tools are always accounted for and reporting any loss of tools promptly to the Industry Supervisor
  • Actively identify, refer and support prisoners’ participation in integrated education into prisoner employment

  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory capacity within a relevant industry
  • Working background using modern equipment
  • Sound computer and written skills
  • Relevant experience and/or Trade Certificate in cabinet making, timber joinery, carpentry or building industry would be highly regarde
