    The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Supervisor - Catering to provide a critical role at Hopkins Correctional Centre.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • An appropriate trade qualification is desirable along with demonstrated experience in catering or hospitality.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (highly desirable).
  • The successful applicant will be required to complete Prison Officer Pre Service Training on commencement if not previously completed.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Industry Supervisors are team leaders in the prison environment. The roles require good people management skills, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate staff and prisoners. With highly developed communication and negotiation skills, the Industry Supervisor leads the industry staff team to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment.
The kitchen/laundry portfolio includes oversight of the prison food service, prisoner self-catering program, events catering and laundry services to the prison and a small group of stakeholders. In addition, the Supervisor is responsible for both the staff cafe and the visit centre cafe which operate as a commercial enterprise under the umbrella of Corrections Victoria Prison Industries.
All functional areas within the kitchen/laundry portfolio operate as a vocational training environment. The Industry Supervisor supports Industry Officers to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners, placing emphasis upon individual offender management with a view to rehabilitation.

Some of your duties will include:

  • In a vocational training environment, train, supervise and support industry officers to work with prisoners in all aspects of the kitchen/laundry operations including prisoner training and assessment, case management, maintenance of professional boundaries and compliance with security management procedures.
  • Effectively supervise all work areas to ensure the safety and security of staff, prisoners and visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners for compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety, and security procedures.
  • Supervise achievement of commercial production targets and customer expectations, develop and monitor the budget, procure goods and services; ensure security, Occupational Health and Safety and food safety compliance is adhered to.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience leading a team in an institutional catering setting.
  • Ability to develop, review, and maintain menus that meet dietary requirements and ensure compliance with the Food Act (Act) 1984 and Australia and New Zealand food standards code (ANZFSC) compliance.
