Organization: Quality Assurance Job Summary: The Infection Preventionist is a registered nurse who is responsible for coordination, management, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention programs. This position is responsible for monitoring and limiting or preventing hazardous and infectious exposure. . Hours of Position: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Flexible start time between 7a-8a to 4p or 5p. The successful candidate will be interacting regularly with staff and leaders in all clinical departments, including inpatient departments, providing guidance on appropriate isolation precautions and PPE, hand hygiene, and other infection prevention topics. This person will also work closely with our Facilities and EVS departments to ensure all Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) are completed prior to any construction work. The successful candidate will work closely with the VTHH Quality Team and will share a large office with the two members of Quality that are on the team. This person will also work closely with the VBCH and VWCH Infection Preventionists as well as the Regional Infection Prevention Manager. Other resources and training for position will include Infection Preventionists and Leaders with the VUH QSRP Infection Prevention team. This person will have interaction and resources available to them with the State of TN Health Department, NHSN, CDC, and THA. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Ensure employees receive training in health care prevention as well as prevention of employee health exposures. • Supervises/conducts surveillance for healthcare associated infections and epidemiologically significant organisms as specified in the Infection Prevention as Control Plan. • Aggregates surveillance data and analyzes trends. • Reports diseases/conditions to state and local public health authorities as required by state law. • Monitors infection control/safety compliance in the environment of care. Coordinates outbreak investigation. • Consults with administration, directors, physician, and staff for infection control and maintains open channels of communication with administration, medical staff and employees. • Monitors compliance with infection prevention processes including but not limited to hand hygiene, isolation precautions, use of standardized PPE and care bundles • Participates in hospital committees, providing reference and guidelines in policy, standards and practice development.
