The ability to manage and prioritise a diverse caseload, and complete tasks in a timely and well-organised manner, is vital. An excellent written style is needed along with the ability to communicate clearly to diverse audiences and build effective relationships. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills are required, and the need to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion.

They will need to be able to assimilate new and complex information with close attention to detail, while using their own judgement to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
THE ROLE
The Information Compliance Team is responsible for ensuring the University meets its statutory requirements in relation to information legislation. This focuses primarily on the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, Data Protection Act and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Information Governance Assistant will play an important role in contributing to the work of the Team and the University’s compliance with these legal requirements.
The Information Compliance Team is currently mid-way through the delivery phase of an institutional GDPR Project and requires further resource to ensure business-as-usual demands can be met during this period. The post is funded up to August 2026.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
The role holder will predominantly handle requests received by the University under freedom of information and data protection legislation. This involves working to fixed legal deadlines, and liaising with external requesters and staff from all areas and levels of the University. They will be responsible for collating relevant information from different internal sources, assessing it for release and applying the requirements of the legislation when replying to requests. This involves representing the University in the public domain.
The Information Compliance Assistant will also provide support in other varied areas of information compliance; this includes handling data breaches, maintaining the University’s record of processing activity and information asset register, assisting with data protection impact assessments and advising staff on how to ensure information held by the University is managed appropriately.
