JOB SUMMARY
Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. Our primary responsibility is to protect energy consumers, especially the most vulnerable, while at the same time working with government, industry and consumer groups to deliver a clean, more affordable and secure net-zero energy system at the lowest cost to consumers and drive economic growth.
We’re looking for an Information Management Specialist to join the Markets Group, where you will be part of an interdisciplinary data support team, to help advance our understanding of markets and consumer protection. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of information governance who wants to apply their expertise to a high-impact role supporting critical business functions.
You’ll be part of a collaborative team working across Markets and with colleagues in Legal, Cyber, Data, IT, HR and Business Continuity to ensure our information assets are well-defined, documented and managed in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
Supporting the delivery of a rolling assurance programme, helping to improve compliance, reduce risk and embed good practice across the group. Working closely with Information Asset Owners (IAOs) to review and maintain Information Asset Registers, Retention Schedules and related documentation. You’ll also support operational activities such as data sharing agreements, legal gateways, records management and data protection impact assessments.
A strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Public Records Act and HMG policy. You’ll be skilled at engaging with stakeholders at all levels, providing advice and support, and helping to embed a culture of good information management.
Contributing to regular dashboard reporting, helping to track progress, highlight risks and inform decision-making at team, directorate and corporate levels. As the organisation evolves, you’ll help ensure our information management practices adapt to new structures, systems and ways of working.
You’ll be comfortable supporting stakeholders with legal and regulatory requirements for information management, working with information assets and related processes like data sharing agreements and records management, engaging across teams to promote good practice, producing clear and useful reporting and helping teams adapt their documentation and ways of working through change.
This role offers the chance to work on meaningful projects and play a key role in improving how we manage and protect our information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Information Management Specialist’s key responsibility is to provide support to help ensure that Markets’ Information Assets are adequately defined, documented, managed, stored, processed, shared, appraised, reviewed and disposed of in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, and good practice and in support of Ofgem’s aims and objectives.
Accordingly, the Information Management Specialist role will interact with key personnel within the Markets Group, but also wider personnel across Ofgem, in relation to supporting the overall programme.
In order to discharge this effectively they will need to support engagement across Ofgem IAOs and be a subject matter expert in relation to legal and regulatory requirements, and good practice relating to information management. Training and Industry recognised Certification will be encouraged and supported.
It is expected that they will also develop (if not held already) Security knowledge and experience, both in relation to the Security component of information management, but also as part of their professional development.
