Under administrative direction of the Staff Services Manager II (Managerial), the Information Officer II (Media Relations Manager) oversees the Media Relations Unit in the External Affairs and Communications Office. The Media Relations Manager is responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive statewide media and public relations program. The Media Relations Manager serves as a point of contact for the California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) for statewide, national, international, and trade media. The Media Relations Manager coordinates with media relations staff in the regional offices in responses to local and regional media inquiries. The Media Relations Manager is responsible for developing and pitching information about the Authority’s program to the media and building relationships with reporters and speaks with reporters on the record and/or on camera about the high-speed rail project. The Media Relations Manager also directs work on talking points and prepares subject matter experts for interviews and other media events.

Working Conditions
Part-time telework is available for this position for up to three days per week for California residents based on the requirements of the position and may be discussed during the interview process. Hiring interviews may be available virtually, using teleconferencing or video conferencing options.
While working on site, the incumbent works in a professional office environment, in a climate-controlled cubicle which may fluctuate in temperature and is under artificial light. Incumbent will be required to use a computer, mouse, and video display terminal and will be required to sit for long periods of time at a computer screen. Employee must be able to focus for long periods of time, multi-task, adapt to changes in priorities and complete tasks or projects with short notice. Employees may be required to travel outside of their workstation to perform general tasks.
