JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a detail-orientated Information Requests Officer to manage and respond to information requests, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and maintaining confidentiality. The salary is £27,000 per annum pro rata to hours worked.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will coordinate and process information and subject access requests in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, ensuring timely and compliant responses. They will retrieve and review information from digital and paper records, applying redactions and exemptions as necessary. Maintaining an accurate database of requests, they will oversee the preparation of disclosures and provide clear, accurate information while safeguarding data security.
Working closely with clients, internal teams, and external professionals, the postholder will support individuals in understanding and exercising their information rights. They will provide advice on subject access requests and ensure all responses adhere to legal and organisational standards. Additional responsibilities include conducting records audits, maintaining organised filing systems, and supporting the wider Information Governance team with administrative tasks.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in data protection and information law, demonstrating the ability to handle complex and sensitive data with professionalism. They must be proficient in using redaction software and managing distressing content with discretion.

  • Knowledge of Data Protection Laws Strong Previous experience in NHS/healthcare
  • & Abilities understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and related legislation, including exemptions and redaction requirements. Experience Handling Subject Access Requests (SARs) Demonstrable experience managing SARs and information requests within legal timeframes. Information Governance & Compliance Experience applying data protection principles, ensuring compliance, and maintaining accurate records. Analytical & Attention to Detail Ability to review, interpret, and redact complex and sensitive information accurately. Communication & Interpersonal Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data protection matters clearly to diverse stakeholders. IT & Administrative Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems, including document redaction tools. Organisation & Time Management Ability to prioritise workload effectively and meet strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy. Discretion & Confidentiality Understanding of mental health services Experience of using patient management systems Relevant qualifications in Data Protection, Information Governance, or a related field. Experience conducting audits related to records management and compliance.
