The Information Security Systems Engineer provides security, systems and hardware engineering to meet U.S. Department of Defense Cybersecurity requirements of the Joint Multinational Simulation Center pertaining to all supported unclassified and classified enclaves and hardware engineering support services for all phases of constructive simulation federation(s); management and operating Army Mission Command Systems (AMCS) to include ADSI, AFATDS, EMT, AMDWS, DCGS-A, JCR, JBC-P, TIGR, TAIS, GCCS-A, BCCS, CPOF, CPCE and JADOCS; integration of constructive simulations and the Joint Multinational Readiness Center Instrumentation System (currently JMRC-IS) and Engagement System (currently MILES II) data with SIMPLE/JMECS for use by C4ISR/ABCS/C2 systems; maintenance of Windows 10/11 workstations, Windows 2019/2022 Server, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstations including DoD IA Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance; local and wide area network management; and digital terrain production and management.

Responsibilities
  • Provide system and hardware engineering support services for all phases of constructive simulation federation(s).
  • Test all beta and new simulation software, integration software or tools, and simulation federations.
  • Provide Windows and Linux System Administration and Engineering support of systems that run software to include JCATS, JDLM, LVC, JLCCTC, LOTS, and DXTRS.
  • Integrate and present system data to create a common operation picture (COP) in support of JMSC simulation exercises.
  • Provide technical integration solutions and recommendations for exercises to also include networks and computer systems layout and setups for simulations and AMCS.
  • Configure, integrate and manage Virtual Battle Space (VBS) simulations during exercises.
  • Maintain Windows 10/11 workstations, Windows 2019/2022 Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) workstations including software updates, patches, baselines, etc.
  • Use Automated provisioning and updating systems to include VmWare, PDQ, RHEL Satellite, and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).
  • Setup exercises to include network connectivity, installing server/clients workstations with Windows 10/11, Windows 2019/2022, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9, and installing simulation software systems.
  • Support the implementation, operation, and maintenance of Information Assurance (IA) logging and monitoring systems and services to include Trellix ESS, Nessus/ACAS. Splunk, LogInsight, Log Correlation Engine, Veeam, GitLab, others.
  • Administer multiple enclave infrastructures using VmWare Virtualization (vSphere vCenter, vSAN), CISCO Hyperflex Servers, Windows server 2019/2022 Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy, and PowerShell automation and scripting.
  • Apply customer Risk Management Framework (RMF) IA policies to create and implement procedures necessary to build, maintain, and document secure networking and computing operations in multiple enclave environments. STIG, SCAP skills and tools including Evaluate-STIG and STIG Viewer.
  • Utilize Defense-in-Depth principles and technology, including access/control, authorization, identification and authentication, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), network and enterprise security architecture, vulnerability and risk assessments and mitigation.
  • Heavy use of VmWare Virtualization (vCenter 7.0 and 8.0) infrastructure and tools.
  • As needed, conduct the following: Work from specifications and installation documentation to develop or modify operating systems applications.
  • Operates software in a distributed architecture in JLCCTC and JLVC environments.
  • Responsible for technical operations, setup and tear down of servers, systems and integration tools; maintaining RMF compliance; providing input to exercise design and technical planning products.
  • Create constructive simulation and gaming simulation databases.
  • Support the preparation, execution, pre-exercise setup and post-exercise recovery and reset of all facilities, workstations, work areas, TOC Pads, and training areas back to their original configurations.
  • Participates in individual training, seminars, conferences, exercise/experiment planning events, site surveys, and exercise and training events and supports the planning and preparation processes and product development as needed.
