SHAW COMPUTER SYSTEMS INC. (SHAWCSIT), PETERBOROUGH AND THE KAWARTHAS

Due to on-call requirements, applicants must live approximately within a 1 hour drive of the City of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. The requirement for employment is immediate; time constraints mean we cannot waitfor the arrangement of work visas and related immigration documentation. As such, NO INTERNATIONAL applicants will be considered. You must be within the job radius and able to work in Canada legally immediately.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Shaw Computer Systems Inc is currently looking for a permanent, full-time Intermediate IT Support Technician. The successful candidate will collaborate with our technical team to supply I.T. support to businesses in the Region. The successful candidate will be able to research, design, implement and support on-going maintenance of stable, secure, and efficient networks in many different business environments, including installation, configuration, diagnostics, and/or repairs on technological equipment and software systems. As part of the ShawcsIT team, this person will collaborate with the technical team to provide support and expertise for the planning and delivery of IT services that meet the organizations mission statement.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS:

A degree, diploma or certificate in Computer Science, Network Technologies or related discipline
A MINIMUM of 5+ years’ experience in systems administration, implementation, application troubleshooting, and client support, preferably in an Managed Service environment.
Project management skills and the ability to handle different tasks simultaneously.
Technical knowledge of server and computer operating systems. Technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards. Hands-on hardware/software troubleshooting experience. Ability to conduct research to solve issues and recommend solutions as required.
Ability to present ideas and explain issues to customers in user-friendly language.
Highly self-motivated and directed. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, fast paced environment.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Strong written and oral communication skills. Keen attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills.
Valid Ontario’s Driver’s License and proof of insurance. Must own reliable transportation.
Clear Criminal Record Check.
CompTIA A+ and Cisco certification, knowledge and or experience with Autotask PSA, NCentral RMM, SQL database and Active Directory, would be an asset but are not required.

Responsibilities

Setup and maintain servers, end user devices and all applicable peripherals with their associated operating systems and software.
Setup and maintain network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, wireless access points, and UPS.
Responsible for the installation and reliable function of security solutions including anti-virus, intrusion and spam detection systems.
Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, configurations, and/or purchases.
Support development and implementation of new technology installations. Maintain application servers to ensure the proper functioning of all computerized information systems.
Prepare and ensure confidential and accurate documentation of client protocols, site management data, internal procedures manuals, and quick reference guides.
Accurately document instances of equipment or component failure, repair, installation, and removal.
Perform network design and capacity planning. Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
Administer add, move, and change requests, maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
Perform server and security audits. Perform system backups and recovery. Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
Provide after-hours remote and onsite support to customers in an on-call rotation with the other team members.
Other duties as assigned.
