THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.

Under direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the incumbent functions as an Information Technology Specialist II in the Mainframe Services Section. The incumbent works in a lead capacity as a Db2 z/OS Database Administrator (DBA) on complex system assignments that support the Employment Development Department’s (EDD) Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS). The incumbent will plan and track activities within EDD’s Mainframe Db2 z/OS system areas. The incumbent will perform most of their duties under the System Engineering domain.

Duties will include:

  • Supporting Db2 development and production environments.
  • Prioritizing and monitoring the Db2 z/OS activities.
  • Ensuring that adequate database capacity is maintained.
  • Creation and maintenance of database objects.
  • Coordinating with the California Department of Technology for installs and maintenance version of Mainframe Db2 software and tools to meet Departmental service level requirements.
  • Planning, installing, testing, and implementing Db2 service-level upgrades and patches.
  • Representing the database team in application development projects with business analysts.
  • Mentoring Db2 z/OS database administrators.
  • Explaining complex technical issues to application developers, business analysts and end users.
  • Implementing best practices for database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Providing technical solutions consistent with Departmental and Branch strategic direction.
  • Providing after hours support for EDD’s mission critical applications

This position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA and may be eligible for telework under EDD’s telework policy. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.
