If so, consider coming to work with us as an Information Technology Technician and join our Information Technology team.
Under the supervision of Information Technology Director, this employee serves as the Information Technology Technician. The Information Technology Technician provides level 1 & 2 tech support by assisting in the maintenance and service of the technology infrastructure, and in end-user support of the public and staff. This position also leads IT projects under the supervision of the Information Technology Director and is the primary IT contact on rotating/assigned nights and weekends. Specific responsibilities/functions will be assigned by the Information Technology Director on the basis of experience, skills, and specific needs of the department.
The pay range for this position is $20 per hour to $22 per hour depending on qualifications. This is a part-time, 25 hours per week position.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working in information technology

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Successfully handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Communicates effectively in person, by telephone and in writing, with staff, public and vendors.
  • Works independently and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable to changes in existing practices, library routines, and workflows.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative, courteous working relationships with a multicultural/multigenerational staff and patron population.
  • Can listen, analyze, problem solve, and exercise good judgment when handling both routine and non-routine issues.
  • Can operate a personal computer; has knowledge of ILS software, email, Windows, Excel, and basic word processing functions.
  • Ability to explain ideas to non-technical people
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, and stoop on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and ability to reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on an occasional basis.

Responsibilities
  • Works in conjunction with the IT Specialist to motivate and train staff; provides guidance and assistance to staff with daily work activities as required.
  • Maintains an awareness and understanding of current policies and procedures and displays proficiencies in all functions within the department.
  • May participate in appropriate local, state, and national professional organizations.
  • Develops and maintains position-relevant technology skills.
  • May participate in library-wide workgroups.
  • Participates in relevant training, continuing education and/or professional development.
  • Provides first-line triage troubleshooting of hardware, software, and other IT technologies.
  • Provides routine hardware, software, and device maintenance.
  • Assists in the design, configuration, installation, and deployment of managed technologies.
  • Develops and maintains user documentation.
  • Physically secures equipment in public areas.
  • Coordinates and schedules the use of portable computing and presentation equipment sets up presentation equipment as needed.
  • Orients new employees to library technologies, as required.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License, access to a personal vehicle, and proof of current automobile insurance required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
