Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Solution Infrastructure Architect to lead the design and implementation of an AIX infrastructure upgrade to IBM Power10 systems. This role involves end-to-end architectural oversight, system integration planning, risk management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure a smooth, secure, and efficient migration from legacy Power systems (e.g., Power8/Power9) to Power10.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and lead the upgrade strategy and roadmap for AIX systems transitioning to IBM Power10 hardware.
  • Design scalable, high-performance, and resilient infrastructure solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Assess existing AIX workloads, dependencies, and integration points to define optimal migration paths.
  • Develop technical architecture documents, including HLDs and LLDs, covering compute, storage, network, and backup considerations.
  • Evaluate and incorporate virtualization technologies (e.g., PowerVM, VIOS), LPAR design, and micro-partitioning strategies.
  • Define and enforce security hardening, patching, and compliance requirements throughout the upgrade lifecycle.
  • Work closely with UNIX/Linux administrators, DBAs, application owners, and vendors to coordinate the transition.
  • Establish rollback, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures related to the upgrade.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to infrastructure and support teams.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through proactive issue resolution and contingency planning.
  • Participate in project planning, cost estimation, and timeline development with project managers and stakeholders.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure architecture with a focus on IBM Power Systems and AIX OS.
  • Proven expertise in AIX versions 7.x, PowerVM, and enterprise migration projects.
  • Hands-on experience with IBM Power10 hardware and capacity planning.
  • Solid understanding of SAN/NAS storage systems, backup/recovery, networking, and high availability configurations.
  • Knowledge of automation and scripting tools (e.g., Ansible, shell scripting).
  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., finance, healthcare, manufacturing) is an asset.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and documentation skills.

Preferred Certifications:

  • IBM Certified Infrastructure Systems Architect – Power Systems
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist (if RHEL/AIX co-existence is in scope)
  • TOGAF or ITIL Foundation
